Real Stories of Hope and Transformation

At Help the Needy, each donation changes a life. These stories highlight the resilience of individuals and families who have turned despair into hope through your generosity and our programmes.

Nadia Qadir – A Child’s Dream Rekindled

Six-year-old Nadia’s father, a fisherman earning less than £50 a month, struggles to provide for his five children, none of whom had access to education. But Nadia never gave up hope.

“I had hoped that one day I could go to school like other children,” she said.

Thanks to Help the Needy, Nadia received a school kit with a uniform, books, stationery, and a schoolbag. She now attends school and dreams of becoming a teacher; ready to educate and inspire future generations.

Mohammed Sami – A Pathway to Dignity and Income

Displaced with a family of ten and no formal qualifications, Sami faced extreme poverty. After joining HTN’s Small Income Generating Programme, he received training in car servicing; building on skills he already had. Today, Sami has a stable job and can support his family with dignity.

Sonia Afroz – Stitching a New Future

After losing her father, 18-year-old Sonia was forced to abandon her studies. With no support, she joined HTN’s vocational centre and is now learning sewing skills.

“I feel proud to be here. I believe I’m learning more than I could anywhere else,” Sonia shares.

She dreams of working in the textile industry to support her family and rebuild her future.

Maeda Khallaf – Holding on in Crisis

Maeda’s husband has been detained indefinitely. Left with four school-aged children and no income, Maeda lives with in-laws in overcrowded conditions. With no outside help, they rely on the goodwill of market vendors to get food on credit.

Her story represents the silent suffering of women with no safety net; and the urgent need for ongoing community support.

Kamila Kathem – A Grandmother’s Fight for Survival

Caring for four grandchildren and a disabled husband, Kamila sells falafel on the streets. Her sons are imprisoned, and she receives no charitable or government assistance.
The little she earns barely covers 20% of her husband’s medical expenses.

Kamila’s courage highlights the importance of medical aid and income support for elderly caregivers.

Lamea Ramadan – Sustained by Kindness

Lamea, a disabled widow, supports eight dependents in a rented room. Her only income is from HTN’s sponsorship programme.

“Only God knows what we would have gone through without this support,” she says with gratitude.

Her story is a testament to the life-saving impact of consistent giving.

Asmaa Nafaa – Healing Through Skill and Support

After her husband’s murder and the theft of her home, Asmaa fell into deep depression and attempted suicide. She joined HTN’s sewing course, where making clothes for her family helped cut costs; and improved her mental health.
Now, Asmaa is hopeful, social, and eager to keep learning.
